So, due to internet problems, I can't currently use anything apart from Skype and AIM in my room. But.. There are computer labs for such eventualities.. right? I have to say, though, it really makes me uncomfortable sitting here with my back exposed and working where everyone can see me. Ah well, I guess I'm forced to overcome not only my internet addiction, but a little of that paranoia too! So. Here are a few pictures from the last couple weeks' wanderings. Been spending a lot of time walking around, as the weather has been nice. Heidelberg is really lovely right now. The number of trees here is fabulous!
Oh, but first let me mention: The onset of my first pollen allergies was hailed by a cold. Arum gave me some Korean medication. The only catch is... the packaging is all written in Korean. So, I took these things hoping that they wouldn't cause death and/or hallucinations.
Looks sketchy, right? I still don't know what it actually...is. Any Korean speakers around?
So, next. I took a couple bad pictures of a less-populated stretch of the Neckarwiese, although if you look along the horizon and squint a little, you might be able to see how full it was.
I've been informed that Friday is a holiday, meaning no Uni, no stores, usw. Yes, again. They have an unreasonable number of holidays here...I think I approve of this. Anyhow, I was also told that the Neckarwiese would be packed on Thursday night, so maybe I'll head down there and try to get some more useful pictures. Maybe.
So, there's a path that runs along the water. I'm not sure how far it goes. It leads to the Neckarwiese and beyond (possibly out of the city) in one direction, and it definitely leads out of the city in the other direction. Within fifteen minutes of walking from my dorm, this is what I encountered...
And about five minutes after that...
So I walked along this path for an hour before turning around and heading back. I finally hit the autobahn, and I would have had to go under a creepy bridge to continue. Maybe next time, though. Anyhow, in the whole hour, I ran into maybe five people? It's almost a little spooky.
What was really spooky, though, was this fence. It had barbed wire at the top, and these signs periodically placed. (Entry forbidden, Danger [more lit. life danger])
There was a tall, dense hedge a few feet behind it, making it impossible to see what was so dangerous...but the whole time I walked by, I could hear something following me behind the bushes. Probably dogs, but still creepy. And I really want to know what's back there!
So coming back.. On the same path (but more towards town) is this collection of installation art. Well, that's what it is labelled as. I really need to go back and get pictures of the whole installation. It's weird. And also a little scary, especially at night.
I'll spare you the two more frog videos, but here's another picture... They're everywhere!
And.. these are good cookies. I got something better today, but no pictures of that yet. I can say, though, that it is a meat product.
And this, this is a fresh pizza. In the refridgerated foods section. Not frozen. It was amazing. Little pieces of tomato, slices of fresh mozzarella, and pesto sauce. Homg.
Anyhow. I'm going to go ahead and upload one of the last batches of vacation pictures...one month later. Sigh. Guess I'll get some commentary up later, or maybe just post a link to the album? Not sure yet.
